How can you tell if something is made of REAL silver?
I have a silver plate and tall shaped dish with a cover, that i would call like a candy dish. I want to know how to find out if it is real silver and worth anything.
Usually depends on when it was made. If it was made prior to the 1960s it's probably full silver. After that it's most likely silver plate. Still silver, but it's over another metal. Chances are its silver plate. The quickest way to tell is how long does it take to tarnish when left out in the air? The faster the tarnish, especially in moist air, the more likely it is solid silver. Best thing is to check with an antique dealer or other metal plate dealer.
